Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Adrenal again. Need input
Hi,
Here's a link to a very interesting study about adrenal disease.
http://www.weaselwords.com/page/ferret_art013.php
Essentially, this discusses photo-sensitivity in ferrets, and ferrets
that were kept under low light conditions showed fewer signs of
adrenal disease, if any at all. However, even though no
overt/external signs were present, some of these ferrets were found
to have adrenal disease anyway. There's some speculation that the
European ferret may have adrenal issues as well, but they may not be
prone to exiting the "classic symptoms" since American ferrets are
primarily kept indoors.
It's impossible to draw any conclusions on this, but even with the
efforts private, US breeders have made by bringing European
bloodlines to the US, we still see adrenal issues.
Best Regards,
-jennifer
