Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: stool and lymphoma?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Hello,

I vaguely recall a post a couple of months ago, may not even have been
here about someone mentioning stool that resembled butterscotch pudding
and I think it was connected to a case of lymphoma. I can't find the
post. I am asking if someone here posted it and if you would kindly
email me privately or post a reply here.

The reason I am asking is that my little sprite, who will be 4 in April
has been having this kind of stool off and on again for a couple of
months. No other obvious symptoms and its not all the time. I took her
in last week for a check since I was taking a gib in as well. The vet
found a painful mass in her abdomen. Our worst fear was that it might
be lymphoma.

She was put on Amoxicilin and Metronidazole for a week in hopes it would
resolve the problem. Unfortunately, she vomited every time I gave her
the Metronidazole no matter how I tried to disguise it. So after a
couple of vomiting episodes I dropped it and I decided to stick with the
Amoxicilin. She did perk up after about Day 7, but last night another
butterscotch pudding stool.

I took her back to the vet today to check on the status of the mass, it
would appear to have grown slightly and she was showing a stronger pain
response on palpation. Next step is an ultrasound to get a better idea
of site and other possible organ involvement. Given its location my vet
didn't want to try to do an aspirite biopsy. There is a new veterinary
radiologist who has just moved to our area but my vet wasn't sure
whether he's set up a practice yet, I'll know Monday.

I suspect the worst - but did want to know if someone here has
experience with intermittent butterscotch stool and its correlation to
lymphoma? I have not found a reference to this type of stool anywhere
I've searched.

Thanking you in advance.

Tressie
