Subject: [ferrethealth] Allergies?? puffy face, scabs, and swelling in feet
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
Hi
My ferret is about 3 years old, he has what the vet thinks is IBS. He
lost a lot of weight, and black green slimy stools. I thought it was
ECE but she was sure it wasn't and prescribe him Amoxidrops and
Flagyl. The reason that I'm writing is that just before we went to the
vet I gave him duck soup and he seemed to have an allergic reaction-
scabs behind ears, a patch over his left shoulder he scratched raw,
puffy face. She gave him a benadryl shot the first visit (and the
meds.) and the second time I went back she gave him a steroid shot-
after she checked his ears for mites and skin. Both shots worked
alright but wore off, and now he is almost done with the meds. but his
face is even more puffy, his feet are swollen(off and on)and the
scratching his even causing more scabs.
(just to clarify too, the vet is indeed an exotic vet)
I'm not giving anything but dry food- which is fine his weight is
better now
Sorry this message is scattered, but I just want to lay all the facts out.
I also thought it was the detergent that I clean his bedding with, but
I changed that too (no difference) to elimate it as a factor.
He has a cage mate (for about 2 years) and he is fine, no symptoms
I use to keep them on a screen porch when i lived in SC-the weather
was okay for it, but now I live in raleigh NC
I thought that maybe it was something inside because when i move them
in was right about the time he got these side effects.
please help
