Subject: Re: [ferrethealth] ? spinal menigitis-- LeLu NOT Mallory
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Hey Lisa

Not a vet - but whats her white cell count? We had a ferret that we suspected had meningitis and we treated successfully with chloramphenicol - that was the only antibiotic that he responded to - from what I know, its pretty rare in ferrets...but this may help. If you want to have your vet consult with mine, let me know offlist and I will provide the info....Hope LeLu gets better!

Saturday 2/9/08 one of our rescues spiked a 104.5 fever-- rear left foot
appeared swollen and a tiny bit of clear discharge from the eyes-- ears
appeared a bit dirty nothing more.
...
returned to the vet ( admittedly not a ferret expert-- and within minutes of
my home ) -- no sign of ear infection-- he made a couple phone calls--
suggested 2.5 mg of pred for tonight and thinks it might be spinal meningitis
