Her fever broke! What a perfect Valentine's Day present.

Was the Chloramphenicol (Hope I spelled that right.) started last night?

I am carrying information to you from Dr. Katrina Ramsell, a ferret vet and pharmacologist
in Oregon, who wanted to reply to you but had her post fail automatically:

Hi Lisa,

Other possibilities include some kind of cancer, a very deep (inner) ear infection which
may be difficult to detect, or an abscess in the brain secondary to an ear infection.

Is LeLu able to eat and/or drink on her own? Is she able to swallow ok? Is she dehydrated?
Is she receiving any supplemental fluids? Has she had a complete blood profile done yet?
This would help us determine if she has an infection, if she may have cancer, and what her
basic organ function is like.

I think it would be helpful to start her on an additional antibiotic. Are you able to give
injections? Injectable ampicillin (e.g. Polyflex) would be good to use in conjunction with
the Baytril. Supportive care such as fluids, feedings, etc. may be necessary to keep her
strength up. A non-steroidal inflammatory may be a good alternative to the pred,
especially if she is getting worse. Pred suppresses the immune system, and the condition
could potentially be exacerbated by the pred if it is a severe bacterial infection for
example.

Sincerely,
Katrina Ramsell Ph.D, DVM
