Subject: [ferrethealth] Dr Murray's reply Melamine actions
Where does the cyanuric acid come from? Does the body produce it during digestion?

Hi Arlena,
Sorry to hear about the loss of your ferret.
Remember it was actually a combination of
melamine AND cyanuric acid that caused the
kidney failure and death in so many pets.
Just melamine by itself does not cause a serious
problem, but melamine and cyanuric acid
causes acute kidney failure and even death.
Likewise wheat gluten (without melamine
and cyanuric acid) is a safe ingredient.
