Subject: [ferrethealth] The smelly fellow bites... NOW I need info on biting too...LOL drowning here
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
I am waiting on the other vet to call me back and also the previous
owner. He did have an xray and I can not see if it was a whole sock
and not a piece of one, that the vet would have even let him go
home? Anyway, he is not stinking so bad today. Thhey had to use
leather gloves to even get him in the carrier, so maybe the smell was
fear + a dirty cage? I have no idea. My vet is not in until
tomorrow. but he is eating and drinking a normal amount of food and
water, poop seems about the same as my other two. He felt a little
thin to me, but not real bad, and he had been sick. he is taking
treats and his medicine fine. He is only 4 or 5 monhs old, though
lanky and long. I thought about using the prep H but wondered if he
would lick it? And now I have to fear how I am going to get that on
his bottom...LOL
Because he BITES like a ######, well you know HARD...I have 9 holes
in my hand and a couple tears...I called the girl's mother (the girl
is still not back home, so I am getting 2nd and 3rd hand info)back
and she said he has been biting from day one and that nothing
worked...He terrorized the mother and father I know for sure. He
bites down and holds on, shaking like he is killing prey, I know that
for a fact. I did scruff him, did the no, drug him on the floor and
then put him back in the cage.
I had been playing with him through the cage, giving treats, rubbing
his head and paws, putting ferratone on my fingers, all was fine, got
him out, fine, got into the bathroom, let him roam, petting him,
offerig toys, treats, even brushed him some, no hissing, no nipping,
no behavior like he was put off by any of it, I checked his body
gently, just to see if I felt or saw anything. Then I lifted him
gently into my lap, talking softly and petting his head and wham he
nailed me and held on. And buddy he means business. I need to be
able to handle him to help him and I wanted to earn his trust, but
even the owner, who had him since Dec was still getting nailed,
though they said not as often as others, but nailed none the less...
they said the breeder said he nipped some (heck this is NOT nipping)
and to hold down his chin when he did (?????) anyway ideas? I have
been bit by primates, skunks, coons name it and this little guys bite
ranks right up there in pure pain and meanness...LOL
