Although it has been around for ages the series of pages which begin here:

http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/Lofts/1083/probintro.html

will be a great use for you and anyone else in that position.
Some of the links from it are NOT good, especially for an abuse
victim or possible abuse victim.

Rehab is not for everyone so if you find it a problem it will pay
to seek someone in your area who does it or has done it.

The odor combo and the biting do make a person wonder if
the ferret may be whole, may have a retained testicle, or may
have adrenal disease if the age of just a few months was given
to you wrong.

A vet check and dental check are very much in order. One who
joined our family as a severe biter was one of the ferrets we got
with dental problems but her abscess was extreme. Luckily as
soon as I helped it drain (by removing a retained baby tooth that
was lodged) she got some immediate relief (followed by immediate
vet care) and she never bit again throughout life.

Teething problems must ALWAYS be considered in biting kits: always
always, always!

Keep a journal to notice what may be the same when biting happens
-- even scents you are wearing and fabrics present (having rehabbed
one who was set off by oil cloth and two who were set off by shoes --
all reminders of abuse).
