Kendra,
Is he an intact ferret? unaltered (not neutered or spayed) ferrets have a stronger scent than the altered ones.
What are you feeding him? Marshalls food was developed for minks. Has lots of fish in it if i'm not mistaken. Might tryswitching him over to Zupreem, or similar dry food. Also some boiled chicken or small bits of raw or lightly cooked beef. Not hamburger.
As for the biting, scruffing and a firm no helps, along with using time out for a few minutes in a small separate cage or carrier. Don't hit hit him. Also can try picking him up as soon as he bites, a finger on the nose or top of his muzzle and give a strong NO. Be sure to love him up with ear scratches.
There are a few other things you could use on your hands to deter the biting. Bitter apple or plain white vinegar.
hope this helps.
gerald
