Subject: [ferrethealth] Because he smelled bad when he came... And had been sick.

the other vet said his poop was running, bright green and he was
throwing up when he came in. that he smelled only of the runs. they
have him on antibotics, did an IV and a shot. I am gathering from what
the vet told me and we talked a long time, that he was pretty sick.
This is the vet he bit her hand to the bone.
I got my other vet to sale me some albon (we used it safely on skunks
and cats), but I wanted to talk to someone before I gave him any, just
encase it was a bad idea. the first vet said that they tested for
coccidiosis, but from years of working with shelter animals I knew that
you get way too many false negatives, unless there is an active shed, I
knew that was not the be all end all. We always treated all new
animals with it, to avoid introducing it, by just adding it to the
water, but since I am unsure if this is a bad idea with ferrets and I
really could use some help here. I just went a head and got the
medicine and if I can use it fine, if not it was only 15 dollars. No
big loss there. I just want to give him every chance I can and so
thought that maybe his funky smell was more about something like that,
than not.
