Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Baby boy losing weight and I need HELP
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

It looks like he tested negative for lymphoma but have found his
red blood cell count to be down. They said its a rare thing they see
once in a while but said that when they start giving steriods, the
ferrets tend to repond well to it. He is not going to remove the
spleen at this time and they are going to monitor how he responds to
the prednisone, which is what he will be taking. They said this case
is not a common one and they could not even give me a name for it,
but they have seen it before and are going to try the steriods to see
if that improves his condition at this point. He is 5 years old and I
knew there was a chance Lymphoma might be the problem, but the tests
came back negative. EIther way, they are are going to monitor him for
a while to determine if anything changes with his condition. He still
had the enlarged spleen and enlarged lymphnode, but his blood work
did change in two months to show the low red blood cell count. If any
of you have come across anything like this, please let me know. This
might be a condition they are unfamiliar with, as ferrets are only
growing in popularity in Canada and they are really trying hard to
get a grasp of what might be happening. Irene
