Also feeding raw egg (and feeding too much certain fish and crustaceans
such as paddle crabs, grey mullet, or dogfish) can result in thiamine
deficiency as per _Biology and Diseases of the Ferret, 2nd ed._ page 168
because raw eggs and fish are both high in thiaminase which destroys
thiamine.
Thiamine deficiency causes anorexia and lethargy. As it worsens also
dyspnea, prostation, convulsions. B-complex must be given, but even then
if it lasted too long there may be neural damage.
(Another consideration with fish is mercury levels -- also found in ferrets fed
chicken which ate Methyl Mercury dressed grain. Yellow Fat Disease/Nutritional
Steatis is also found when too much of certain marine fish or marine mollusks
are fed. Remember, though, that in moderation fish oil is wonderful source of
Omega 3 fatty Acids which are very good for health, esp for the ferrets' kidneys)
