Subject: [ferrethealth] Poor eater, defective jaw?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
My 9 month old silver mitt hob has never been a good eater, when we
got him from the breeder he was eating day old chicks but apparently
mid process of being weaned on to kibble. We fed him chicken wing tips
and soaked kibble and eventually cut out the wing tips. For months he
would only eat the kibble swimming in water, we tried to make it drier
over time but he refused to eat it.
He recently stopped eating it all together and he went for 2 days
without a single bite of food only ferretone as he doesn't like
ferretvite. I now feed him his food pureed with tone and vite popped
in to increase his weight. His mouth is usually quite dry and he seems
to be chomping on air all the time, I looked in his mouth and tried to
compare with the others. Just behind his back teeth on both sides I
can see a white line that the others don't have, just under where I
guess his jaw hinges. Any ideas what this is? My vet isn't the most
ferret knowledgeable and appreciates any suggestions for my fussy
fuzzy? Is he just plain stubborn or is something wrong?
Thanks in advance
