Subject: [ferrethealth] This food okay for ferret?

Howdy!
I read the messages on this list and have learned a lot, and this is
my first post.
We have a 4 year old (one of 7 ferrets) that has been into the vet for
liver issues. The vet put him on Zentonil(100 mg 1x per day) and Milk
Thistle(.33cc 1x per day) for liver support and changed his diet to
Medi Cal Mature formula (Canadian made) for cats as she wanted him on
food with lower protein. The first 3 ingredients are rice flour,
corn, and chicken meal. For such a supposed high quality food, is
this okay?
Prot is min 25%
As we pay almost $35 per bag and are feeding 7 ferrets, I don't want
to feed them something not good. She recommends this for ferrets over
2 years old.
They have gotten excellent care from the vets in that clinic so I
guess I am a bit surprised about the food. I hope it's nothing to
worry about.
