hhhmmmmm.....if he's not grining his teeth, I don't have any idea why
he's chomping at the air. If he was fed raw meat as a baby, he
imprinted on moist food and may not recognize dry kibble as food.

You may want to try adding some chicken baby food in with soaked
kibble an make it a bit soupier.

I had a boy that had insulinoma, and he would grind his teeth. He
got really picky about what he would eat...he wanted his soup, and he
wanted to be hand fed. I never did figure out if he would eat on his
own since I was so afraid he might "crash" from low blood sugar.

If your boy is not grinding his teeth, then I'm pretty much out of
ideas on why he's not eating like he should be - unless he just has
you trained to feed him his favorite food!

If your boy was raised on raw food, then he probably imprinted on
wet/moist food, so he may not recognize kibble as real food. Maybe
he wants some raw food. You might want to offer him a small tidbit
of raw chicken to see if he tries it. ( If he likes it, and if you
decide to try him on raw food, you'll want to join the natural ferret
yahoo group to learn how to provide a balanced diet.)

That's about all I can think of. I'll post more if I come up with
any other thoughts that might possibly be useful. I know how
frustrating picky eaters can be.
