Subject: [ferrethealth] Adrenal surgery - during had enlarged lymph nodes, now dying
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

He had one adrenal removed, did fine for a week and then went
downhill. Slightly bigger lymph node than during the surgery is
palpable. I have him on sq fluids and prednisilone, .5mg BID (5mg/kg).
He is not getting better, and he had a shot of prednisilone last night
at the vet to see if he would perk up. My question is - what is the
maximum dose of Prednisilone you can give a ferret. We are at an all
or nothing stage at this point. He is scheduled for euthanasia anyway.

The vet said that the adrenal disease was outputting high levels of
cortisol (sp?) and so it was helping the lymphoma symptoms and making
him feel good, and now that it is gone, he is feeling the effects of
the lymphoma full-on. It this normal? From now on, if a ferret has
enlarged lymph nodes during a surgery, should I ask that the adrenal
not be removed?

Thank you very much.
