Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Was this a "screaming seizure"?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Our own experience has been that if a ferret who has had no symptoms suddenly has
grande mal seizures (which are survived of not) then rather than insulinoma there is the
likihood of either lymphoma or carcinoma in the pancreas. We have twice had ferrets who
were suddenly dying under similar circumstances. Both needed glucose, both needed gentle
cheek puff artificial respiration to muzzle, one also needed warming. Both were incredibly
lucky to survive that first bout. The one with carcinoma got 3 months which we were told
was good with carcinoma at that location. The one with lymphoma got 9 months -- ditto.
Both were hard as heck to manage during the time they had remaining. Acute onset can be
nasty sign. Insulinoma is much easier and more responsive with more options.
