Hi Patty,

People are supposed to be less allergic to ferrets than cats - the
theory about most allergies to cats is that most people are allergic to
protiens in cat saliva. Since ferrets don't groom/lick themselves all
the tim like cats do, then allergies to ferrets should be less of a
problem. I

My husband is allergic to everything - especially cats. His asthma was
getting worse every night (bedtime), so we stopped letting the ferrets
into the bedroom. The errets are now restricted to one room, which has
helped ot a whole lot. Also, we got our "brats" (2 hobs, 2 jills) as
intact kits - the jills were spayed as soo as they came into season.
the boys wre neutered after about a year and a half. The neutering of
the boys helped a whole lot....also, I ene up getting them all
descented because of the asthma. I know that most ferrets don't "poof"
very often. For some reason, my brats poofed constantly - all 4 -
multiple times a day. All the descentings went very well (I have an
awesome ferret vet), so although I hated to do it, everything turne out
really well for everyone.

A friend of mine has LOTS of intact ferrets since she's a ery
smallscale breeder. Her asthma is really bad - especially from her
breeding males. She gets hives an bad astha when she's around her boys
when they're in rut. In fact, she's periodically on prenisone for the
asthma.

Also, it seems like a lot of people ho re allergic to cats are also
bothered by ferrets - but I have no actual data on this.

Best Regards,
-jennifer
