Of my current 13, 6 are already known adrenal and being treated with
lupron. 2, both MF/early alters, both female, were started on lupron
as a possible/hopeful preventative at just over 1 year of age (which
may have been too late, but I'm still hoping). I'm using the 4 month
depot at a dosage of 500 mcg's, and I'm doing it year round rather
then yearly (which I'm not convinced will be effective). They were
just started in July 2007, so it will be quite some time before I'll
know if it's done what I hope that it will....but, so far so good.
Both are nearing 2 years of age now and I've not seen any signs of
trouble (not even a case of rat tail, which I've grown accustomed to
seeing in all of my ferrets). Considering that my youngest confirmed
(by symptoms, U of Tenn panel, and surgery) adrenal case was under 1
year of age when the disease hit (full force and with a vengence), and
I've had a several others showing signs (mostly behavioral) at under 2
years of age, seeing no signs in these two at 2 years of age makes me
very, very, happy. As you've said, if it even puts off the onset....
well, unless/until better options are available, that's good
enough by me.
