With my play area I dug their fencing down and buried it folding the last foot under patio slabs. The whole play area is also covered with closely fitted patio slabs. The soil was then placed on top of the slabs. They have a swimming pool with a slide that they can play on and in (there's never much water put in, only enough to get their feet wet) They also have a sand box that is filled with reg top soil that they can dig and tunnel to their hearts content. This seems to find itself transferred over to the pool on a regular basis LOL. To keep out flying preditors we screened in the whole open area (put a top on it) and to keep spider type ferts (climbers, I have a nuber of these brats) in, we attached a metal flashing to the last upper foot so that they can't get a grip and climb over. The screen would probably prevent this but I'm not taking any chances with my furbabies. My guys love playing out there, unfortunately at the moment they're restricted to playing outside only during the spring, summer and fall months as their fert-door is set in my screen door and at the moment that door is firmly closed brrrr!!

Still need to keep an eye on them near the fence. I have a couple of marathon diggers that can dig with amazing ability. Also watch out for predator birds. Can swoop down in a heartbeat and scoop up a ferret. Other than that, let them enjoy the outdoors and the scents of the various animals that have crossed the yard.
