Subject: [ferrethealth] Treatment of Adrenal Disease
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
I live in the southeast, Florida. I, personally, have found surgery
to be much more effective than Lupron/Melatonin. Surgery is always
my first choice, health permitting. I also am not a fan of monthly
Lupron injections. I have found them to be ineffective for the most
part. Perhaps the dose is/was too low. I now only use the 4 month,
1mg and religiously give it every four months. That equates to
250mcg per month, considerably more than most 1 month injections. In
an extreme case, I might start with a 4 month, 2mg and then go to the
1mg the next round. Following surgery, I will give Lupron injections
if any symptoms return, but that is not my first course of action. I
still feel that surgery gives the best chance at quality of life.
Can anyone tell me the difference between the 3 month, and 4 month
injections, beyond the obvious, that is? And, what would be the
point of giving a 3 month, when a 4 month is available?
It's a shame that no long-term studies have been done, though I know
that several vets are doing studies, both formally and informally.
Problem is, they haven't been going on long enough to provide
conclusive evidence. Until then, we each need to know our options
and make informed choices. Isn't it nice that we actually have some
choices in the matter?
