Sandra,
We have the same here in IL. But most spiders live above the ground where they place their webs. Not really a threat to pets and humans. Am more concerned about sunlight and heat of summer for our ferrets. In summer, they only get out in shady areas and when there is a breeze to help keep them cool.

Wasn't too concerned about the winter and them playing for a short time in the snow. Now heard a news report on bacteria being found in the snow in this area. Didn't say exactly what it was, but sure don't want them to pick up something to threaten their health.

Think it might be related to the chemtrails that cover the sky here some days. Don't buy the explanation that it is contrails from jets. Contrails disappear in a short time. These trails continue on for hours and form a cloud layer. But that is off the subject. (Sorry Suki, you can delete this paragraph if you wish)

Let the ferrets out to play and explore new experiences. Either in a fenced area or on a harness and leash. And if you keep their shots up to date, any disease threat should be almost nonexistent. Nothing like watching them dook and dance in the grass, track scent trails across the yard or dig a "hole to China".

[Co-Moderator's Note: I saw that new work exists but haven't read it yet so will have to try to locate it again. That snow, rain drops and hail -- ***if*** I recall right -- can use bacteria like like other particles for a nucleus to build around was known from Earth cloud formation back in the 1970s when I took some interplanetary climatology as an adult student. I would suspect that whether it would pose any risk would depend on the types of bacteria and the concentrations, but also suspect that there are probably many far more likely routes of infection with higher concentrations of bacteria, though I am NOT a pathologist so simply do NOT know. Here is the article:

As to contrails there is a lot more to them than people had realized. When air traffic decreased drastically world-wide after 9/11 it was noticed (by its absence and then studied) that contrail heating tends to help water vapor group into clouds, and of course there is a lot of carbon dioxide as well as a decent amount of particulate matter.

Anyway, that was an OT diversion, but it hit me that people might worry so might was well get it over and done with. LOL! -- SDC]
