We've increased meds for a second time as of today.
He is still not responding and is at the point where
he will immediately start pawing at his mouth once I
give him the pred. I've tried giving him the
diazoxide and he literally spits it out and then paws
at his mouth. I'm going to attempt to give it to him
in a few minutes. Right now he's actually sleeping.
This is the routine at the moment - sleep for about an
hour, gets up and poops everywhere (bad diarrhea from
the a/d) and then starts coughing, spitting and pawing
at his mouth. I give karo and a/d and he calms down -
for about an hour. Then we're back at it again. I
grabbed my bottles of pred to make sure I've told you
the right dosage. The bottle says - give .5ml every
12 hours and then under that it says 5mg/5ml. I have
another bottle of pred that has been compounded with
strawberry flavoring. That bottle says - 2.5mg/ml and
if I give him that medicine, then it is only .2ml
twice a day. Bear tips the scales somewhere between
3.5 and 4 pounds. He has gotten heavier with the
increased pred.
Do you really think it is just a matter of increasing
the meds? He is not a surgical candidate per the vet
as he is 7 now. If he continues to have these
seizures every hour even with the increased pred, we
are considering alternatives as his quality of life is
not great at the moment. I would HATE to make the
wrong decision. Increased meds versus putting him
down - I'd much rather increase his meds and keep him
around and happy.
