It sounds as though your ferret may have an ulcer, either in his mouth or stomach. Have you been giving him carafate 20 minutes BEFORE you give him the pred. Pred can be very hard on their stomachs and ulcers can be painful. I would suggest giving him carafate before the pred. I know that pred can cause ulcers and liver damage. At our shelter we ALWAYS give carafate before pred. If his poops are dark and tarry, then there is a possibility of an ulcer. We've had to learn the hard way to give the kids carafate. I lost one insulinomic ferrets due to liver damage and a couple more because of the ulcers it caused.
