To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I have the Ferret for Dummies book and it is a very good book.

I do know that if anyone read everything out there and listened to
all of the problems that ferrets can have and/or can be, I can not
imagine that many folks would get them as pets, which might not be
such a bad thing. So I am taking it all with a grain of salt. The
voices that seem to make sense, that give me rational, well thought
out answers, that have the research to back it up, I will weigh in
heavier.

But I had already decided that I would do my reading, listen to my
vet, and make my own choices. The choices that works for our family
unit, fur and non-fur. Much like raising human kids, too may people
want to tell you how it is best to do it and not all advice is good
advice. I know from experience that not all things work for all
animals or all families. I know that life has it's risks, but
without taking a few risks, life would not be worth living. I lived
through 3 cancer operations, the loss of both parents and the
complete loss of my home in a fire. I decided then and there that I
would experience life to the fullest, because living in fear would
not be living at all. SO I went hang gliding not once but 7 times in
TN, I have rafted rivers in TN, NM, SC and CO, I rappeled in UT, I
rode dolphins in Mexico, swam with rays and octopuss in the Virgin
Islands. I lived life by weighing the risks and deciding what I was
willing to do...I plan to allow my guys to enjoy life to the fullest.
And if that means guarding them in the outdoors, then guard them I
will. And I will pass all of the new information about bacteria,
viruses and such that you gave me along to my vet and let him be
aware of it. Hopefully the benefits of fresh air, sunshine and hard
play will out weigh any other possible problems we could run into.

thank you for all of your input,
