ulcers are definitely an issue that you need to consider. i've just
gone through it with my 'bear' aka lil bear.

when her cagemate started going downhill, lil bear started with the
licking the chops bit. since she's had insu for two years, i put it
off to that acting up again.

i was wrong. she had ulcers starting (she was worried about simba)
and within a week of simba's passing, the ulcers were bleeding.

the pred is very hard on the stomach - always, always, always give it
after some food has been eaten. even then, it can still cause
problems - especially if the dose is high or there is some stressor
that is happening.

giving the carafate before the food (at least 15 minutes) is something
to do to prevent the damage the pred can do to the lining of the
stomach. definitely speak with your vet about it.
