I had a ferret with a lump the size of a golf ball on the throat area. It turned out to be a salivary mucocele. My vet put a drain in it and it brought it down but it came back so she did surgery on it by marsupializing the pouch inside (which looked like a tongue) as removal of one is a very difficult surgery involving a lot of nerves, etc. and I would need a special surgeon to do the surgery. It has been almost two years and no problems since! Here is some information about it, in case anyone wants to know more about it. http://ww.peteducation.com/article.cfm?cls=11&cat=1284&articleid=2920
