I'm sorry for your loss.

I hope that you had a necropsy done after death. Otherwise, you have
no proof of the cause of death. Disputing the charges is only going
to create an adversarial relationship with your vet, and that's not a
good idea if this is a vet you want to continue to use. I believe a
better thing would have been to talk to the vet, and ask that she do a
necropsy to determine the cause of death. If she is an honest and
caring person, she should be willing to do this and determine once and
for all whether pre-surgical bloodwork might have made a difference.

I haven't always had pre-surgical bloodwork done but have made it
routine now, since a ferret of mine showed up with kidney issues when
pre-surgical bloodwork was done. My vet called and said he would not
be doing the surgery. Now, I request it on each and every one prior
to surgical procedures.
