Thank you all for your input on Squirt's condition. As many have suggested we have come to the conclusion that it is most likely he is suffering from some form of cancer or other rather incurable disease. I unfortunately do not have the $1200 to go forward with exploratory surgery for a definitive diagnosis, so we will be having the vet regularly remove fluid from his abdomen and we are going to start him on prednisone and try to keep him comfortable. If anyone has any other suggestions as to how to slow the build-up of ascites it would be greatly appreciated.
