Well maybe not a period quite so fast. Actually, not to split hairs, but, salt licks or blocks as we have always called them are for whomever needs them. We have always supplied them for small rodents, rabbits, horses and cows, along with mineral blocks. They are meant to be supplements, just as we use salt (with iodine added if needed), not only to enhance the flavor of our food, but for necessary minerals.

I would think that necessity, rather than for whom the product was originally intended, would drive the necessity for whom a salt lick or wheel or block is given.

Off hand I can't think of any reason a ferret would need this supplement. As David and others has said a healthy, well-fed ferret should not need any additional salt.

So for me, a more important question would be - what are you feeding your ferret?
