I'm in the UK and we only have private breeders here and neuter at 6-8
months of age or later. And yet most of the ferrets I have had have
been very sickly. I've lost a lot that were around 5-6 years or younger
to all sorts of health problems. Most of them were rescues so I didn't
know their background. I've also lost some older ferrets at around 7-8
years old. One was 9. But they all got sick. I used to think that
ferrets were hardy animals but that's not my experience. I also wonder
why there is so much sickness. I'm feeding partly raw and partly dry
food and have not seen as much insulinoma since (only one case and his
was malignant and he'd been fed a very bad diet for the first 1 1/2
years of his life) but then I saw more renal failure and then
cardiomyopathy. It seems if they don't get one illness, they get another
instead.

How many small breeders here have ferrets that get sick with all these terrible issues? Am I alone here thinking this?
