This lump looks a little bigger and a little further back than the one on
the rescue I took in last November. See "Rescue's lump" in the photo
section that I added at that time. There are views from three different
angles- none quite as good at showing the overall shape as your photo. My
vet took xrays and determined that the lump did not extend into the brain
cavity, but did appear to be into the skull and you can actually see some of
it in the roof of this mouth when holding his mouth open. His mouth does
not completely close on one side. Since it did not seem to be changing and
the x-rays showed it would not be possible to remove the tumor entirely, we
have just been watching it. It has recently been showing some change in
shape and size on the top of it, but the area under the ear and the part at
his mouth has not changed. My vet believes it to be a benign osteoma.
While it is benign he said if only part of it would be removed it would
likely come back. So far it has not seemed to cause any problems.

Unrelated to the lump on his head, his body was also almost bald, and we did
adrenal surgery on him. The adrenal tumor was the right adrenal gland and
extremely large. Biopsy showed leiomyosarcoma with a glandular component.
Because of its size and location complete excision was not assured. A
follow-up sonogram was done a month following surgery which did not show any
additional growths. Since his adrenal surgery, Pace has regrown all his
hair and acts like a normal young ferret.
