The lactase enzyme added to regular milk to break down lactose into simpler sugars makes it taste slightly sweeter to most people.

mean sugar free. There is plenty sugar in lactose free milk in the
form of glucose, galactose. And to make lactose free milk even
sweeter some manufacturers add sucrose.
