Contrary to popular belief chickens are not fed hormones to increase
their growth. From the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine info
sheet on broiler care:

"Poultry are fed diets comprised primarily of grain, protein
supplements (e.g. soybean meal), minerals, vitamins and fat. By-
product ingredients such as wheat bran, bakery byproduct meal, meat
meal or dried brewers grain are sometimes used when they are cost
effective. Approved growth promoters (e.g. bacitracin) and
coccidiostats may be added to feed in small amounts. Mold inhibitors
are often added to prevent the development of mycotoxins which are
harmful to poultry. Hormones are not approved for poultry and are
never included in the feed or water of commercial poultry. "
