While I have not heard of an allergy to the shot Lupron in ferrets, what individuals are
allergic to -- even severely -- can vary a lot and your description sounds just like a mild
anaphylactic response.
The trouble is that an anaphylactic reaction can worsen without warning, and even on
extremely rare occasion can occur as a delayed reaction happening hours later (or with
adult humans who are much larger depending on the item as long as two days later that I
know of...)
Instead of just planning to try less I think that you should discuss this with your treating
vet. Personally, being very familiar with anaphylactic reactions (with ferrets and with
human family members including Steve and me) I would be leery of the Lupron for this
particular individual but perhaps your vet can work out something where the ferret could
stay at the hospital for a hour or a few afterward under supervision, or get the Lupron
while also getting IV Benedryl or some other reaction lessening approach.
I think that Lupron releases some over time, after all, it is a depot, so the question
becomes whether there might be something in the medium that the Lupron is in which
might be an allergen for this ferret.
Just throwing out ideas, but this is something you absolutely must run by your vet.
