I hope I can help a little, or at least offer some direction, as I
faced something very similar to what you are describing.
My little girl was doing the exact same thing and dragging her hind
legs around, although using them when she needed to pee.
They took an asperate of her lymphnode and found out that she had
lymphoma. She has been getting some chemo treatments here and there,
as her white blood cells seem to be too low for her to have them
regularly, but so far, she has done amazingly and has responded to
everything they have done for her. The first thing they did was give
her prednisone and clavamox and found that within 24 hours, she was
walking around normal like nothing was wrong.
The ultra sound is probably your best bet and they will do the tests
necessary to determine what might be wrong. They also told me that
infections can cause this to happen, so it might be possible he has
an infection that is causing this. Either way, be strong and know
they will hopefully put a finger on it quickly and bring him back to
normal with hope and prayers to God.
I wish you the best and hope what I wrote helps you.
Irene
