Subject: [ferrethealth] Snacks for Fuzzies
To: "AmericanFerretAssociation" <AmericanFerretAssociation@yahoogroups.com>
My guys do not like the treats you can buy in the stores........so I am looking for snacks that they will eat. They love honey-nut cheerios, and apple cinnamon cheerios. Charlie, my little boy, loves cheese, mashed potatoes, chicken soup and chicken salad (I did NOT give him these, he has gotten these from moms plate and licking out the soup bowl).
Any ideas on snacks that are good for them that they will like? I was told NOT to give them raisons. Charlie likes to try things, Siam, my little girl, doesn't like anything but the cereal..
Thanks!
De

Making thing easy because food discussions tend to regularly get
out of hand and have to be ended, here is the definitive answer from
a well-known ferret veterinarian. The past post is from the 7 years

Ferrets are carnivores which means they need
a high protein and high fat diet. They also need a
low fiber and low carbohydrate diet. Their treats
should also be high protein, high fat, low fiber and low
carbohydrate. Therefore fruit, nuts, cerals are out.
Baby food (second stage chicken or turkey), Hill's
a/d and Oxbow's carnivore care make great treats.
Likewise cooked eggs and cooked meats make
great treats.
Hope that helps,
Jerry Murray, DVM
