Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Anemic, enlarged spleen and bone marrow problems
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I went through something similar to this last week, with my Gracie.
The end result was not good.

When I went home at lunchtime last Wednesday, she was having
difficulty walking. I immediately called my vet and dropped her off,
assuming low BG. Long story short, her PCV was around 12 (anemia),
and he felt her spleen had probabably begun to rupture. Her tummy was
getting larger and larger right before their eyes! After x-rays,
ultrasound, oxygen, IVs, and an overnight stay to stabilize her, we
decided to go in the next morning. My vet found four lymph nodes that
looked really strange, and some milky fluid throughout (he was
expecting blood). He suspected cancer, probably lymphoma, so we let
her go on the table.

He had sent in some samples of several organs, and they came back
yesterday as lymphosarcoma, so our choice to let her go was the right
one.

Gracie was 8 y.o., dumped at the animal shelter by her only owners at
7 y.o. and blind. I had only had her for about a year. Up until
Wednesday, she had showed no symptoms of anything being wrong.
