Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Looking for advice/consultation for a very ill little girl
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
All,
Thank you so much for your kind words and advice. Here is everything
we've done and her symptoms, as best I can describe. I realize I'll
be repeating myself but I'm desperate. The vet just called me and
pretty much said there's not much more he can do.
Symptoms: Discomfort in her belly area when palpated. Diarrhea, but
no black tarry stool and no unusual findings on her stool sample test.
Treatment: Flagyl, Carafate, Omiprozol(spelling), Amoxi for 6 days
Result: No improvement.
Symptoms: Not eating on her own, somewhat dehydrated, very thin. Went
from 640g to 498g in about 10 days even with force feeding Hill's A/D
and Nutrical from a syringe. On an I/V drip for hydration. Still not
eating or gaining weight.
Symptoms: General weakness. Lethargic. Barely responds to outside
stimuli. Hardly fights being given her meds. Cannot walk without
falling down. Sleeps constantly. Trembles almost constantly unless
warmed by an outside source.
Test: X-Ray shows no signs of trauma or bone problems.
Test: Fasting glucose (60-65) and insulin (1.7). Glucose is on the
low side but insulin is also quite low.
Treatment: 0.2cc prednisone twice a day for 5 days, no result, stopped
this med. 0.3cc prednisolone twice a day for 24 hours so far. No
improvement.
Symptoms: Enlarged spleen.
Test: Ultrasound confirms enlarged spleen. Pancreas has several
nodules (possibly pancreatic acinar hyperplasia)?
She is too weak for an exploratory surgery. My vet is out of ideas.
She has not responded to any of the medications. I cannot let her go
when we have no idea why she is ill, I just can't do it.
I am in Baltimore, MD. I will try anything, drive anywhere.
Kate (and Luna, my little girl).
