I hope I can help you a little with this one, as I had to face a
similar situation with my little baby. You will probably already know
that the right adrenal gland is a more risky surgery. It is located
right beside vital parts that could easily be damaged and could end
up being fatal to your baby. I made a similar agreement with the
Veterinary College I take my ferrets too. We agreed we would try the
Lupron for a 3 month time period and see wither it made a difference
and if it did not, then we would do the surgery.
The first month, I did not see an great improvement, so they
increased the dose. The second month, still no improvement, yet he
was growing scabs on his body from the adrenal disease. We took him
in for his last chance and they increased the dosage one last time.
We even went as far as booking the surgery because we did not see any
improvements, but actually a decline in his health. The forth
injection made a huge difference. It was a larger dose then the first
two and his health improved greatly. His fur all grew back, the scabs
all went away, and my baby was energetic and full of life as he was
when we first brought him home.
For now, we have all agreed he will be kept on the Lupron and we will
just monitor how he does over time. There is still a chance at some
point in the future he will still need the surgery, but for now, he
has done wonderful with the new amount they have injected him with
and we are willing to continue at this pace.
With your situation being a right adrenal gland, I would most
certainly recommend doing the Lupron over doing the surgery. It never
hurts to give it a chance and as I mentioned, the surgery for the
right adrenal gland is more complicated and risky and something I
would personally postpone being there is another option at this
point. You may still end up doing the surgery, but at least you will
know you tried the other options first, which is safer route.
Good luck and I hope I may have helped. If you have any other
questions, pls feel free to ask.
Irene
