Subject: [ferrethealth] thin hair from pred?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I have a two yr old female with thinning hair, and bald spots on her
belly. I posted awhile back about the bald spots on her belly, which I
believe (based on their location) are from her fat little belly
rubbing on the floor when she squeezes in to places. She was at the
vet a couple weeks ago for her vaccines, and had a cbc, profile. all
came back normal. She got bald spot on her neck though at the vet,
where some hair must have been pulled out during the blood draw
struggle. there are no signs of it growing back in. Her hair is also
very fine, soft and thin all over. She was on a high dose of pred
(0.4mg twice a day) for IBD, but I am in the process of weening the
dose down per the vets advice. Could the thinning hair and bald spots
be from the pred? She seems so young to be adrenal. She is not itchy
at all, nor does she make me itch when I hold her, which always
happened to me with adrenal ferrets in the past (must be the hormones
or something). Should I consider doing a melatonin implant with her?
