Subject: [ferrethealth] Chronic Explosive Diarrhea, possible Lymphoma Sickie Soup suggestions
To: menchador@gmail.com

Hi Jennifer,

I saw your post and I'm so sorry that Squiggy is going through all this (as well as you too).
With all of the perscriptions and vet visits I'm sure that my suggestions may be something that you have already done or I'm hoping that maybe something mentioned will be helpful.

I'm thinking that you already have some of my dook soup and I would suggest the following regiment:
(I'll post this also to the FHL but not everyone will agree with my suggestions, but this is what works for me and I have had many older and hospice ferrets to gain this experience.)

*1.0 - 2.0 mls of Carafate/Sulcrafate at least 20 minutes before feeding
I make it a bit thicker than most to really coat everything and the trick to carafate/sulcrafate is to let it bloom in warm or at least room temperature spring water.

*0.50 - 0.75 mls of Childrens Kaopectate at least 20 minutes before feeding (do this at the same time as the above)
I prefer this to the Pepto Bismal some people use.

*0.25-0.50 mls Ferretone Oil This gets the yucky taste out of the mouth (do this at the same time as the above)

While you are waiting the 20 minutes, mix up a batch of the Dry Dook Soup I sent you.
It already has Ferret Aide with electrolytes as well as Ferret Probiotics (since his whole system has been stripped with "anti" biotics)
Add to the soup the following:
2 Teaspoons of Libby's 100% Canned Pumpkin (or Gerber Sweet Potato Baby Food) refrigerate the rest.
1/4 - 1/2 inch strip of Ferret Nutrical or Ferretvite (I like the Nutrical better)
AD Feline Canned Food (Get it from your vet. add 2 Tablespoons. I prefer it over the Chicken Baby food,
when the guys are really sick as sometimes the baby food can make them a bit "loose")
Low Sodium Chicken Stock (1/8 - 1/4 cup and reduce the amount of spring water you usually use to make the soup. Due to having the diarherria, he is dehydrated and this will help a bit with that).

If I recall Squiggy loves the Dry Dook Soup and this is our shelter version of "Sickie Soup" or "Super Soup" that we make when needed.

Also just my two cents, if Squiggy has been this debilitated it could very well be that he has lymphoma and short of prednisione, I would not do surgery. It would be major surgery and it it is lymphoma or another kind of cancer surgery would not cure what's ailing him. Sometimes the kindest thing we do for them is hospice care to make them as comfortable as possible and know when their quality of life is not what you would want for them. You are his guardian and his Mom and know what's best for him. Try the regiment I suggest and hopefully this will get him on the right track. If you need more soup I will be happy to send it to you.

Hugs to you and Squiggy!
