Hi Sharon,

I think you'll find more information about haemobartonella if you look
up haemoplasmosis. the "bug" has recentlly been reclassified as a
Mycoplasma-type organism. which is different than the other
bartonellas. I beleive this disease is associated with cats, but it can
also be spread by ticks and fleas (which are also associated with
cats). If your ferret (or cat) does have haemoplasmosis or some other
tick-/flea-borne illness, you and your vet may want to discuss (and
possibly test for) more of the bugs these nasty little disease vectors
can carry. The medical community has, in recent years, learned that co-
infection with multiple bugs is more common than not, especially when
it comes to ticks. If you would like more information about tick-borne
illnesses, please feel free to email me directly - I've been harshly
advised that my warning about tick-borne illness, as it relates to
people and pets, is inappropriate since my husband has the diseases -
not my ferrets.

Best Regards,
-jennifer
