Subject: [ferrethealth] Ear Tumor
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

A new album called Julie's photos has been added that has a picture of
my ferret Teddy Bear's ear. (Thank you, Sukie, for figuring how to get
it loaded from EasyShare.) Sorry for fuzziness -it's been greatly
enlarged.

Teddy has a tumor like growth on his ear. It's been treated with
Synotic eardrops which helped some, then an injectable steroid (good
for two weeks) and Baytril eardrops, which has helped some more. It is
probably half the size it was at Christmas.

It has been mentioned that this should come off, however, it is in a
delicate place to remove. If a nerve is damaged, the right side of his
face may sag.

The latest vet to treat this ear suspects a spindle cell tumor. Three
weeks ago, when the ear was flushed and examined, the 'tumor' like
growth was 'free floating' in that you could move the general area
around.

Has anyone dealt with anything like this before? I would appreciate
any information anyone can share on successful removal, did it come
back, did the ferret's face sag, and how long can I expect Teddy to
survive if it is or isn't removed. Pretty much just anything I can
learn about this thing. Thanks a lot. He has a follow up appointment
tomorrow - Friday, and it would be nice to have good information to go
forward with. Not really much in the archives.

Thanks so much,
Julie
