Subject: [ferrethealth] Serious problem with 15 month old
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
A couple of weeks ago my Barney started itching and had progressively gotten
worse....then he started losing hair. I gave him children's benadryl and
gave him a shot of Lupron. A few days later (last Monday, March 31st), took
him to our vet who did a pretty thorough exam of him, but no blood tests. Our
vet did a melatonin implant and it is suspected adrenal. The itching is
somewhat better, I gave him another shot of lupron and has kept up giving the
benadryl, but this morning I noticed what I suspect is lymphoma as there is a
hard knot under a front arm. Now what? Is there going to be anything I can
do for him? I had intended on surgery for the adrenal within the next few
weeks, as can't get in before then.
I've only had one other ferret who had lymphoma, and it was several years
ago. As she had had surgery for left & right adrenal glands, spleen, and a
knot on her tail, didn't take her in when I noticed the knot under her arm.
Is this always fatal? It just seems to me that whatever is going on with
him is too aggressive as the hair loss was fast and now all of a sudden this
knot. I'm sure that the vet checked for this 6 days ago.
He seems awfully young for all of this. He doesn't play at all and I'm very
worried.
Thanks for any suggestions and help!
