Subject: [ferrethealth] Ferret not using front legs
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I have 4 month old ferret, Bandit. About a week ago, he suddenly quit
using his right arm. We took him to the vet that same day, but after x-
rays, she really wasn't sure what was wrong. She first thought his
elbow was broken, then just dislocated. We bandaged his arm for the
next week. The bandage came off after a week, so we took him to another
vet. She took more x-rays and said everything was healing and
recommended we leave the bandage off. Well, now he's not using EITHER
leg! He scoots around pushing his back legs. Sometimes he'll hop a bit
on his front two legs, but only about maybe a third of the time. The
whole time he was bandaged up, he used his left arm just fine.
Immediately after returning from the vet, he's rarely using either.
It's only been a day - is this normal ferret behavior? Could he just
have temporarily lost his ability to balance?

Here are his second set of x-rays, taken after the bandage came off. To
me, the elbows BOTH look out of socket but the second vet cleared it. I
don't have his first x-rays - I'll try and go pick them up.
