Really interesting, thanks for sharing! I've observed much the same with mine. I still keep separate, smaller groups of ferrets together that get along more often than not, it's easier on my peace of mind and theirs. Within their groups, if they decide to fight and poof over who gets the better spot in the bed, well, I let them fight. It's usually the girls who squabble with each other, and generally it consists of some rolling around, the loser running away, LOTS of noise and screeching, puffy tails and poofing. So I always know where they are, just follow my nose. The boys are usually just glad to have a warm fuzzy to snuggle. LOL. The whole males HAVE to be separate when they are in mating season - otherwise they annoy the girls with constant attention and definitely go into "kill or be killed" mode when confronted with a male. There is not enough room in the house for the loser to get away safely.

Can you suggest anywhere on line to find new research on dog dominance? I'm curious to learn more.

Therefor, ferrets are littermates or small
family groups, not really a social species. Will they fight, yes.
They are a bunch of kids living in a forced social situation and
trying to figure out a comfortable way to live. Do they dominate, no.
They aren't trying to control the situation. Think of them more like
squabbling children. A hob may alter this family relationship since he
is in a kill or be killed state in order to mate (remember they are
not social and other ferrets mean competition).
