Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Ferret not using front legs
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Well, I just dropped Bandit off at the vet. I LOVE the new vet - he is
so knowledgable. He said Bandit definitely has dislocated elbows - the
spot where the humerus should fit into the ulna is too shallow so his
elbows are very prone to dislocation. He said he does not recommend
surgery because he's too small (he's 4 months and small for his age on
top of that) and it'd do more harm than good.
He's going to splint them and wrap them to his body. He thinks there
will be enough scar tissue to hold the bones in place though we'll
always have to be careful with him. When he gets older if it's still a
problem, he can have surgery but he really thinks the splints /bandages
are worth trying.
So overall, good news - at least I know what's going on and thank
goodness I've found a good vet!
