Sorry, I should have been more thorough. JL is Juvenile Lymphoma,
a specific form of lymphoma which almost (but not always) strikes
before the age of 2 years, often younger.
Luckily, it is pretty rare. In 27 years we have had one ferret with it.
JL is thought to have a possible genetic vulnerability component
due to how young it can happen.
There is a WONDERFUL article on the various forms of Lympho that
is written for any audience by ferret expert veterinary pathologist
Dr. Bruce Williams which first appeared in Ferrets Magazine before
that magazine went on the web for free universal access so the article
is found at the author's website. A copy of the article can be found
here:
http://www.afip.org/ferrets/PDF/Lymphoma_Ferrets.pdf
There are color dissection photos on 3 of the 4 pages. Some people
like to warned about those and have something handy to cover the
photo or print in B&W, though most FHL members are used to such
photos by now.
BTW, some of the past health articles have made it to the magazine
site so maybe more will later also be available there once they become
more used to the needs of online publishing.
Ex: excellent article on medds by Dr. Jerry Murray:
