Subject: [ferrethealth] Wanted to say hello to you all!
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I am a fairly new fuzzy mommy only having had my babies for about a
year and 4 months.

I had had zero experience with ferrets except for
one a boyfriend had when I was a teen that was not descented or box
trained. It didn't even have a cage so the fuzzy got into everything
as well as he liked to bite.

I had a pretty negative impression of
the little wuzzles until I met my Partner. She started telling me
stories about her ferret Casper, about how much fun he was, how much
love/joy he brought into her life and how much she missed him. We
had been together for about 3 years and I wanted to give her some
thing for X-mas that was from the heart, so when my co-worker posted
that she had a 2.5yr old female ferret needing a good home, I thought
that would be the perfect gift for my girl. But before I committed
myself to this idea, I decided to do some research on ferrets and
their basic care to make sure I would be able to care of her.

I quickly found out that being a ferret owner wasn't much different
then being the responsible owner of any other domestic animal and
most of the negative feelings I had had about ferrets weren't caused
by the ferret but by the owner's treatment the ferret.

Animals and
children aren't born bad it's how they are treated by their parents.
I think in most cases they become products of their environment.

So
to make a long story short, I took Thelma home for X-mas andinstantly
fell head over heals in love with her. In my research I had read
that ferrets are social animals so we got Thelma a playmate, Louise!
Then we got Piper, then Hirley and then Ronan. So we are the proud
mommies to 5 wonderful, awesome and amazing fuzzies. I can't imagine
my life with out them.

I hope this post is ok to send being as the
group is about ferret health in all. I've been a member for quite
some time reading all of the posts daily and learning alot of info. I
have a few questions of my own but want to look thru archives first
so I am not asking something that has already been discussed. I'm
also a little worried some of my questions might be stupid and would
be wasting the group's time. Thank You for accepting me into the
group and sincerely hope I haven't broken any rules by posting this
Salutation.

[Moderator's Note:
Normally we only allow health and behavior posts.

In this case your post is appearing because it sounds like you
want to ask some health questions but are afraid of doing so. On
topic questions are something a person should feel free to ask.
There isn't one of us here who hasn't at some point asked a
question that was feared to be stupid but really was smart, and
there isn't one of us here who hasn't had a "Duh!" moment when
learning from another.

None of us is perfect. (We'd be ferrets if we were ;-). ) So, if you
have on-topic questions and you don't find your answer then feel
free to ask.

Thank you for checking the archives first. That marvelous
resource at
http://ferrethealth.org/archive/
is a real treasure, isn't it? Pam and Eric work so hard to keep
those handy for us all.]
